PROJECT 67
(photos posting soon)
This all-original 1970 Nauset was located in Central Maine from the original owner. She was purchased new at Clarke Marine in Augusta, Maine in 1970. She was used on various Maine lakes and rivers with an occasional trip to the coast venturing as far offshore as Monhegan Island on occasion. She was never kept in the water overnight and always stored inside under cover for her entire life. She has been in storage since the late 1990s. She has not been modified in anyway and retains all her original components.
The Nauset model was introduced in 1960 and began the center console revolution in the boating industry. Prior to the Boston Whaler 16’ center consoles (Nauset, Sakonnet, Eastport), the center console design did not exist in the boating industry. Nauset interiors came standard with a mahogany fixed pilot seat, mahogany center console with windshield and mahogany bow locker cover.
Other original standard features include stainless steel side railings, Perko bow light, Kainer stainless steel pole stern light, and Morse MT-2 engine control. This Nauset is factory optioned with the William J. Mills forward canvas dodger and Ritchie Explorer Model 15 compass.
She was originally powered by a Homelite 55hp 4-cycle outboard. She was repowered in 1994 with a new Johnson 3-cylinder 70hp outboard with variable rate oil injection, hydraulic power trim/tilt and electric start/choke. A full OMC gauge package was also installed to include tachometer, speedometer, trim gauge and ignition key switch/safety lanyard. The Johnson was only used for a few seasons before being winterized and placed into storage in the late 1990s. The motor is equipped with an hour meter clearly displaying only 55.9 hours of use since new! The motor has 120 psi compression across all 3 cylinders and operates/looks in new condition. The inline 3-cylinders have a reputation as one of OMC’s best outboards ever produced with excellent power/weight ratio. The Johnson has been fully serviced and is excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition with zero rust/corrosion and retains glossy original paint.
The interior mahogany is in excellent condition having just been re-finished with 8 coats of Petit Captain’s varnish. Rounding out the package is the very rare and desirable original Holsclaw trailer in excellent condition.
All original, Nauset models which retain all their original features, have not been modified or abused, are extremely difficult to come by. This Nauset is very striking and a is sure to be a conversation starter wherever she goes.
