PROJECT 36
We acquired this all-original 17’ Newport from her second owner in Rochester, NY where it had been unused since 2002. This owner had purchased this boat from his best friend, who purchased it new in 1980. This Newport was used exclusively and very sparingly in the Irondequoit Bay region of Rochester, NY and stored inside every day since the day she was purchased. There are less than 100 original hours on the hull and motor. She has never spent a night in the water and was always trailered and garage stored after every use.
This particular Newport was optioned from the factory with the very rare, rear fiberglass casting platform with livewell, factory cushion set for the bow and casting platform, removable tow pylon for skiing, and stainless steel side railings. The custom Sunbrella mooring cover has never been used as this boat was always stored inside. The original 1985 Evinrude V-4 90hp outboard is equipped with a Variable Ratio Oil (VRO) injection system with a 1.8-gal reservoir tank mounted under the fiberglass casting platform, power trim/tilt, electric start/choke and electric priming pump. The 90hp Evinrude/Johnson V-4 offers incredible power/weight ratio and has a reputation as one of OMC’s best outboards ever produced.
This Newport is in absolutely perfect and spectacular condition and ready to launch today.
The 17’ Newport was introduced in 1975 and produced until 1990. The Newport was built on the same 17’ hull as the very popular Montauk center console, but was intended to be a more family friendly platform for fishing, skiing, cruising and to compete with bow riders. The standard Newport model featured a molded fiberglass side console with windscreen, wide fiberglass gunnels with interior storage, forward low-profile stainless bow railing with windscreen, three-piece rubrail with scarlet red insert, two forward upholstered bucket seats and reversible pilot seat with cushioned bottom and padded backrest. The Newport model has an excellent layout for family adventures on the water.
